Ghost Hunters Academy

Although I would not qualify it to be a season, I watched the final episode of this shows "season". I was glad to know that the ones chosen would go on to Ghost Hunters International, as that isn't one of my favorite shows, so it isn't a huge loss for me. Especially when the ones picked I didn't necessarily find all that interesting.

I liked Chris, as he seemed down to earth and didn't make it seem like he knew what he was doing, like he was some sort of expert in the paranormal. Plus he didn't seem to be all about the drama. At least I can root for him in the next "season".

But, the one thing I found odd about this show is that some of the locations they went to, when Ghost Hunters had investigated there it seemed like they got a nice amount of evidence. On Academy they were lucky to get a banging sound which they couldn't explain.

I am someone who watches these shows for the evidence and it seemed like a let down for me, as I am not one interested in the drama that some wannabe TAPS members create from something that is so small.

So, you investigate with someone three times and now that they are going home nothing will be the same? And the new person you have to treat like crap because they replaced your newly found BFF? I wasn't a big fan of Jane, but I really didn't blame her for speaking out like she did. The second the other members saw her she wasn't welcomed. And I thought that was pretty crappy.

It makes me wonder, though, why there was the huge lack of evidence. I wouldn't be surprised if the next season has more to keep people interested in it.

Anymore I only look forward to seeing Ghost Adventures. All the other shows I watch only for the evidence. Although Ghost Lab is good. Just wish that one brother wasn't so annoying to me. xP And The Haunted I like, as it's just stories of paranormal things, like A Haunting, although I think I've seen all of those.

Paranormal Shows

As someone who is interested in the paranormal and has had experiences with spirits in the past I enjoy watching these types of shows. Well, almost all of them. I have a problem with shows where it seems like they are faking things and then serve up absolutely no evidence as to the voices they heard or shadows they saw.

I have been reading reviews and comments of the reviews of various paranormal shows and I find it funny how some people take this all so seriously. I especially love the "professional" paranormal researchers who give incoherent comments that mainly consists of bad spelling, insults and swearing about the investigators on the show being reviewed. Most who say they are a professional and have been doing research for years cannot give any points as to what the ones in the show are doing wrong. Instead I read that they are stupid and fake and don't know what they are doing.

It is as if there is only one way to investigate the paranormal and you must stick to that method or else you are an amateur who is to be mocked and exiled from the paranormal research community.

I also find it annoying that most who love Ghost Hunters hate other shows. They will then go on to talk about the non-personalities of other investigators on other shows, yet don't seem to see that Jason and Grant aren't really bubbling with personality, either.

But to them, Ghost Hunters is the best paranormal show because they debunk stuff. To me, that is one of the most annoying aspects of that show. They seem so quick to debunk things, saying stuff like "The noise from the pipes could be what the people are hearing" and then going off to the next, when I would think most people would know the difference between a footstep and a clinking pipe. And at times, while they do this, especially during the reveal, it seems as if they are talking down to the client or to the witnesses.

Now, I realize investigating a whole building takes time and it must be pretty boring when hours have passed and you don't catch any evidence. And so, with the limited time, you want to try and cover all of the claims. Also, I don't know if it is just bad editing that makes it seem like they are so quick to debunk things and move on, having to fill all of the stuff into an hour or half an hour.

One thing that annoyed me was an episode of GHI, another show with a lead investigator with the personality of a brick, yet one which its fans seem to ignore as they insult other investigators. I don't remember which show it was. I want to say it was the Frankenstein's castle episode, but I am not one hundred percent sure. In the episode the team got no evidence and debunked some of the stuff. During the reveal Rob came out and told the guy the place wasn't haunted, which the guy seemed relieved at, as he had been having problems with workers afraid to enter certain areas alone. As a group who tries it's best to be as professional as they can be, it seemed very unprofessional that they would come out and say that a place with a lot of stories was in fact not a haunted location instead of saying there was no activity that night and that they couldn't say either way if the place was haunted. And then the owner said he was going to tell the workers that GHI said it wasn't haunted, so they had nothing to worry about.

What about the ones who saw and heard things? They are pretty much being called liars.

It also seems unprofessional to get evidence that sounds like there is some sort of evil entity involved and then hiding that from the homeowner as to not scare them. Or is that just another case of bad editing? Although one episode of Ghost Hunters had this evil sounding growl and Jason and Grant decided to not tell the woman because it'd make her more afraid. And so, what happens when she sees the episode?

And some of the ones commenting and a few of the reviews admitted they had only seen one episode or part of one episode, already going into the show hating it for their own reasons. Shows take time for one to get to enjoy. For me, I have a three episode rule, where if I don't like the show after three episodes I don't watch it anymore. And even with that rule I still make decisions, although not concrete, on the shows after the first or second time viewing it.

Paranormal State really annoyed me when I first saw it. I thought that Ryan was full of himself and saw the quality as not that great. If anything it was good for a laugh or two. But the more I watched the more I took it for what it had slowly started to become and I started to enjoy it. Over the years it has become much much smoother. I am not turned off by the Christian angle of it, like others seem to be. So Ryan is religious. Who cares? And yeah, they use psychics, which are hard to believe, but I keep an open mind with them. While many are frauds, some are legit and it isn't fair to the legit ones to write all of them off as frauds.

Ghost Adventures annoyed me, too, when it first started. I remember seeing the special they had done and watching it mainly for the evidence. I never thought they'd get their own show, but after seeing several of the episodes I was glad they did. I find it highly entertaining and am always intrigued by the evidence they capture.

Extreme Paranormal for me was very meh. I am not that interested in the occult, so the rituals they did didn't really add anything for me. And I found it odd that they went into an old prison and started lighting fires and cutting through the bars on the door. I could see them allowing the fires, but cutting the bars I can't seem the owners allowing, unless the place was soon going to be demolished.

The Haunted annoyed me after seeing the first show. I was turned off by the common theme in the two cases where animal expiramentation had taken place and how they made it out to be the most horrible thing ever. I know it's Animal Planet and they are all about loving the animals, but it sort of felt like I was being preached to. The whole thing with the evil doctor doing evil things to the poor defenseless animals in the name of science and the animals that died haunting the location, to me, is just cheesy. I was very happy after seeing the second episode and am now more interested in it.

Ghost Lab I enjoy, but as with the others it annoyed me when I first saw it. Now, after seeing six episodes, I am entertained by it. I do feel sorry for the others on the team, though, as it seems like only the two brothers do all the investigating. I would want to be right there with them. Again, it could just be the editing.

Ghost Hunters I watch, but for some reason it seems different this season and I find myself not enjoying it as much as I once did. And GHI I watch, but I am not a huge fan of it, as I find most of the team to be annoying, even after they got rid of Andy and Brian. But then, I find most people annoying, so what do I know. -shrugs- And Ghost Hunters Academy I find almost unwatchable, but I watch it figuring it might get better. Plus, as with any elimination type shows, I get pulled into them much too easily to where I'm watching The Next Food Network Star and Design Star and Hell's Kitchen and that show with the dog groomers. And I always find myself rooting for one or two people to win. But with Ghost Hunters Academy I find myself picking in which order the investigators should get kicked off. The investigators they have just seem so full of everything and overly dramatic. I just want to see them be hypocrites and accept the next new person on the team, since so far they seem to have not accepted the girl that had been added, who may be the next one to leave. I haven't seen the whole episode, yet. :P
